London Luggage Storage

London Luggage Storage

Dragging heavy bags and suitcases can kill the fun of your holiday. If you feel you can dispense with some of your luggage and want to leave it somewhere safe while enjoying your vacation, then the first place to look is the station or airport you will arrive to or depart from.

Most of the major London railway stations and airports have luggage storage facilities where you can safely keep your bags for as short a time as a couple of hours or as long as a few months. These services are run by private companies and prices at airports and stations vary from £5 to £10 per item stored for 24 hours. Private lockers are not available at any of the major London stations or airports any longer.

Tips and Tricks

Many airports and stations have a few facilities operated by competing companies, Do check out their prices, opening times and other policies before choosing the service that best suits your needs and budget. Check the opening hours of the facility where you leave your baggage. You would probably want to save yourself the unpleasant surprise of heading back home for a late night flight and finding out that you cannot reclaim your baggage because the facility is closed.

Most companies will charge you for every 24 hour period of storage time. This means, if your luggage has stayed at the facility for half an hour after the first 24 hours have gone by, you will have to pay for entering another 24 hour period. Pick your bags on time and you can save yourself quite a few precious pounds. All bags are screened before accepted so you might not want to leave any metal objects inside before you leave them for storage.

Are you carrying too many bags with you? Whether you are arriving in London for a longer stay, for your studies or you are relocating permanently, you probably have a huge amount of luggage to bring along. In this case, you might consider sending some of it as unaccompanied luggage to avoid paying massive airline charges for excess baggage. Do check out what you can send and what you cannot as unaccompanied luggage as different countries have different rules and policies.

Those who plan to stay in London for a longer period, whether to work or study, might find it more convenient and much cheaper to store their baggage at facilities outside of airports or stations. Some companies offer storage facilities throughout London. Fees are often four to five times lower than these charged at major transport terminals.
